My House My Rules

Knives out mug

After listening to the Rian Johnson episode of Scriptnotes that I wrote about yesterday, and in anticipation of the second film of the Knives Out franchise, Glass Onion, I decided to watch Knives Out again last evening.

Not counting the times I’ve listened to the commentary tracks, this makes my third outing with this film. Even though it’s a whodunit, and I know the ending, there are so many subtle touches, as well as so many laughs along the way, that the film does repay multiple viewings.

For example, you can watch the progress of that baseball as it makes its way through the movie until it’s finally the catalyst that reveals a secret that someone would have preferred remained hidden. Old Harlan and his games.

Or just watch the expressions on Toni Colette’s face.

Or that comment about that Harlan makes to Marta about telling the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.

There are lots of things to enjoy on a second or third viewing.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
