“Create a new password”
That’s the subject line of a lot of email messages I’ve been getting recently from Instagram.
Apparently someone has been trying to reset my password, that someone being not me.
When that happens, Instagram sends a message to the email address of the account holder to verify that the request is legitimate. If it were a legitimate request on my part, I would proceed, but as it is not, I can simply ignore the message.
I also have the option to click on a button to let them know that I did not initiate the password reset request. That’s what I usually do.
I have no way of knowing what’s going on. Is someone trying to break into my account?
More likely, it’s someone who has forgotten their Instagram account ID and types in mine by mistake.
I’m curious if Instagram actually does anything when I tell them that I didn’t initiate the password reset.
We got a request to change your password. You can create a new password to finish making changes in Accounts Center.

If you ignore this message, your password will not be changed, and your changes to Accounts Center will not be saved. If you didn’t request a new password, let us know.
