I’m ba-ack!
A little over a year ago I stopped blogging because, frankly, I was totally fed up with my blog hosting service, which shall remain anonymous but whose initials are that worthless piece of crap Squarespace.
The problems with Squrespace, and they are legion, mostly revolved around their refusal to allow a third party editing software, such as MarsEdit (which is what I am writing this post on (on which I am writing this post? Nah, the first way is better)).
So I had to use Squarespce’s crappy built-in editor which is just a complete piece of shit (yeah, I’ll probably be a bit more explicit in this incarnation of my blog. You got a problem wid that?).
So writing and editing posts had become just too onerous. For example, adding a web link was an exercise in click-click-clicking until I got all the options right, and adding, placing, and shrinking an image was a futile fight against the Squarspace editor that just didn’t want let me put the image where I wanted it. I could go on, and maybe I will someday, but suffice it to say that I have no love for Squarespac.
But—
It did allow me to export all the posts from my two blogs, and I’m happy to report that I was able to import all those posts into WordPress with a minimum of effort.
Except—
All the images had a huge canyon of blank space trailing them. That turned out to be Sparespace’s fault as well, and with the friendly help of a WordPress support person and a little search ’n’ replace in BBEdit, I got that cleared up. (BTW, Squarepace’s technical support is all but non-existent, by which I mean a non-answer after 24 hours is not particularly helpful.)
However—
There are still some problems. I have to go through and re-edit each of those posts (there were nearly 300, but I’ve been deleting some, so I’m down to about 250 now) to remove some of the cruft that Quarespace left in its wake.
Anyway I still have a lot of work to do, but in the meantime, I can blog again.
