A few days ago I went to do my wash and when I pressed the button to turn on the washer it went into a spin.

Huh?

What was wrong?

It didn’t take long to figure it out. I had turned the dial to the Spin setting by mistake.

How had I done that?

Simple.

Normally I do two loads every week. A Permanent Press load and a Normal load. In that order.

So when I do the first load in the morning, all I have to do is turn the control one setting to the right from Normal (where I left it last week) to Perm Press.

What I forgot is that in the middle of the week I had done a load of sheets and a comforter and set it to Bulky/Sheet. So when I turned it one setting to the right it ended up on Spin.

It’s all the fault of the bad design of the knob that has a symmetrical look to it, but only one white marker. In the dim light of the basement, it’s difficult to see the white marker as a pointer. 

It would make a lot more sense if that dial weren’t symmetrical but were a simple arrow. Then it wouldn’t be so easy to make such a mistake.
