Graduation—Second Thoughts

I received some feedback on my post about my high school graduation.

First of all, the Jordan Brothers was an all white quartet, so it is unlikely that they were the band that played at our graduation party, because I remember it being two Black singers with a backup band.

To tell the truth, I don’t recall the name of the group that played that night, but a few years before he died, Dennis Keener came to visit me for a day when I was still living in the Wissahickon neighborhood, and we got to talking about that night, and he recalled the name of the band and the name of the hotel.

Well, I’ve forgotten the name he supplied for the hotel, but I thought he said the band was the Jordan Brothers. It could be that he was mistaken, or it could be that I misremembered what he said. Sadly, he isn’t here to tell us what it was he said.

In any case, the name of the band is still an unknown as far as I’m concerned, but I am quite certain of my memory that it was two Black singers with a backup band.

As to the name of the hotel, Cindy Behney informs me that it was the Host Hotel, and while that does not ring any bells, she has never steered me wrong yet, so the Host Hotel it is until someone can prove otherwise.

I’m happy to report that Gary Wells has bravely stepped forward to back up my memory of the conga line. His exact words were “I do remember the conga line, sort of.” As far as I’m concerned “sort of” is a ringing endorsement!

And last but most definitely not least, as conveyed to me by the indefatigable Cindy Behney, Steph Seldomridge says that my writeup was “spot on!” I assume that is yet another endorsement of the conga line.

Dog conga line record.
