Tools -> Marketing

For the longest time I’ve been trying to figure out how to get rid of the Twitter and Facebook buttons that appear at the bottom of my posts, but WordPress’s menus are so byzantine and convoluted that I’ve never been able to figure out how to do it, so I usually give up after a few minutes. And recently their tech support seems to have been downgraded to just a bunch of not very helpful forums.

But a little while ago I decided I wasn’t going to stop until I eradicated those buttons once and for all. (I presume I need not explain my reasoning for wanting to banish those buttons.)

Anyway, in the course of going through the seemingly endless supply of WordPress menus, I discovered I could easily change the color palette of the blog with a click. How do you like it?

I made a few other little tweaks while I was at it as well, most of which probably are not nearly as obvious.

But I could not for the life of me find any place to turn off those blasted buttons.

So I did a web search on “wordpress remove twitter” which came up with lots of suggestions but each one was a dead end. I’m not sure but I assume WordPress may have changed its menus over time.

So I kept looking.

And looking.

And twiddling here and there.

Finally I stumbled onto Tools -> Marketing and Voilà! The Twitter and Facebook buttons were staring me in the face.

They were positively grinning at me.

As if they were daring me to do something about them.

All I had to do was click on them and they were gone.

While I was there, I decided to add a bunch of other buttons that I thought might be useful to someone or other. At least I know how to remove them should the need ever arise.

Unless WordPress changes its menu structure again.
