Quote of the day:
I think religion is presumptuous and I think it is silly, because it makes you believe that you are less than what you can be. As long as you can blame everything on some unseen deity, you don’t ever have to be responsible for your own behavior.

In a recent episode of John Gruber’s podcast The Talk Show, John spends a fair amount of time discussing Apple’s Dark Mode and that he doesn’t use it and how he doesn’t like the color distortions that it performs on the the icons and the apps.
Well, I couldn’t care less about those things. I use Dark Mode all the time on all my Apple devices and I love it.
I’ve mentioned previously that I experience something that the medical profession has lamely labeled auras but I think are better called ziggies. Technically I have ocular migraine which causes me to periodically see a sparkling zigzag pattern over part of my field of vision that lasts about 25 minutes and sometimes results in a migraine headache.
Many people claim to have “triggers” that set off these ziggies but in my case, the closest thing I’ve found to a triggering incident is viewing a bright light. This could be a reflected light of the sun or a bright white computer screen. By using Dark Mode I can greatly reduce the chances of seeing a bright computer screen and thus somewhat reduce the frequency of the ziggies. But often I’ll get a ziggy without any specific triggering incident, so there are no guarantees.
The other thing that I’ve noticed is that the ziggies almost always occur on an empty stomach—either early in the morning, or just before or while I’m preparing a meal—so I think they have something to do with low blood sugar.
