The Friday Headline Quiz

Usually on Fridays, the folks at Electoral-Vote.com have a fun little quiz.

The way it works is this. The headline of each of the stories has a word or words that form a theme. The readers have to guess what the theme is. Oh, yes. The theme words always appear after the colon.

There are a couple clues given. The readers are told whether it’s one word, multiple words, or variable words per headline and which Trivial Pursuit Category the theme would fall into. Plus, an actual clue is given. Then normally on Saturday an additional clue is given.

The first 60 readers to guess the theme correctly are then listed the following Friday.

This Friday’s theme I found to be pretty easy. I got it right off the bat. Although as I didn’t see the post right away (I was downstairs  doing laundry), I was probably not among the first five folks to submit an answer. Maybe not even the top ten. I won’t know until next Friday.

Anyway, I thought I’d offer the headlines and the clues here in case you want to guess the theme for yourselves.

You can always go to their web site if you want to read any of the stories.

Here are the headlines:

• The Iran War: New Revelation Makes Clear This Thing Isn’t Going to End Anytime Soon

• The 2026 Election: Trump’s Poll Numbers Continue to Be Very Poor

• The 2028 Election: The Hill Judges the Presidential Fields

• I Read the News Today, Oh Boy: Can You Get a Job with a B.F.A. in Puppet Arts?

• This Week in Schadenfreude: Cue Up Your Favorite Proverbs about Pride

• This Week in Freudenfreude: California Acts to Legalize Balcony Solar

And here are Friday’s clues:

For this week’s theme, it relies on one word per headline, and it’s in the category Literature. For a hint, we’ll tell you that the profile of Mark Cuban, as a potential presidential candidate, was supposed to run today, but we ran out of time and space. Too bad, because it was that item that inspired the theme.

And here is Saturday’s clue:

Donald Trump would be unable to solve it because it relies on a particular book, and he most certainly has not read the necessary book. Admittedly, he probably hasn’t read any book. But definitely not this one.

If you still haven’t figured it out, I’ll give you one more clue:

The theme is particularly appropriate for today.
