Fire Code Violation?

Gutted house

Just up the street there’s a house that’s been under renovation since sometime last summer. The workers come for a couple days, make some noise, do some work, and then disappear for a week or two.

Needless to say, progress has been slow.

I wish they’d just get it over with.

But that seems to be the modus operandi these days. Those million dollar homes that I wrote about last year still haven’t been completed; workers come back every once in a while to do a little more work. Maybe the money has run out? It looks like two of the homes have been finished, and they’ve switched to a different realtor, but no sales yet.

Back to the renovation.

I noticed something very odd. In the process of renovating, and really they gutted the entire place down to just a shell, they have filled in the back door and left just a window in its place.

My understanding is that the building is being converted into apartments, and one of my neighbors suggested that removing that door might be a fire code violation.

I mean shouldn’t there be at least two means of egress in an emergency?
