If you haven’t seen the video of Dani DaOrtiz’s incredible magic feats in yesterday’s post, I suggest you watch it before proceeding.
Have you watched it? OK
It’s no exaggeration to say his card tricks were the most astounding ever seen on Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
The video below is one person’s explanation for how Dani did this amazing tricks.
Now sometimes when one learns the secrets behind a magic trick, the answer is so mundane as to be disappointing.
Not in this case.
Assuming that these explanations are correct, and they certainly seem to be, my admiration for Dani has only grown. Before viewing this explanation video, the only portion of Dani’s trickery that I could really explain was the eight of hearts bit, which was a pretty standard sleight of hand move.
But in order to pull off all the rest of it, not only did Dani have to be a master at card manipulation and sleight of hand, but he also needed to have a prodigious memory, make use of psychology, all the while keeping up a high speed patter that was reacting to the reactions of the quartet of people surrounding him. He’s more than deserving of being called, as Penn Jillette later did, “the best card magician who has ever lived.”
