Ever since I moved into this South Philadelphia row house three and a half years ago, I’ve been wondering how did they ever get that refrigerator through that narrow front door.
I’m about to find out.
The fridge has been showing signs of age, though I don’t know just how old it is. Some of the insulation has worn away and the water dispenser has pretty much stopped dispensing water. I could live with that, but it also brought the flow of water to the ice maker to a trickle. As long as it was a trickle, it was ok, as I don’t use that much ice, but when the flow stopped altogether, it was time for another trip to C&D Appliances.
And to make a long story short, the design of refrigerators has apparently changed over the years, and to get a GE model that matches what I currently have, I’d need a doorway that’s at least 31.5″ wide. Mine’s only 28.5″.
So I have to settle for a 17.6 cu. ft. model rather than the 22 cu. ft. that I currently have. Oh, well, I guess I really don’t need all that space anyway.
They’ll be delivering the new one on Friday. So that Medicare reimbursement couldn’t have come at a better time!
The good news is that now I don’t have to bother cleaning the current fridge!
