Earworms

Every Friday the electoralvote.com blog includes a puzzle as part of their topic list, and last week I hadn’t a clue as to what the answer to the puzzle was. This is fairly normal. Usually either I get it right away, or at least fairly quickly, or I don’t get it at all.

But last week’s looked like it was something that I should be able to figure out, so I spent more time on it than usual, but to no avail.

Yesterday, the answer was revealed and it turned out that it involved an autobiographical song by Billy Joel.

Now I know next to nothing about Billy Joel or his songs, as he became popular around the time that I was losing interest in pop music, and the only piece that I can identify as his is “Piano Man”. I mentioned as much in an email to a former co-worker later in the day.

As chance would have it last evening I was watching a TV show where that particular song was played.

What are the odds?

I mean, it’s probably been years since the last time I’ve heard that song. I certainly never go seeking it out, as I don’t particularly care for it. It has one musical phrase that’s sung over and over and over and over and over ad nauseam. And once I hear the song I can’t get that stupid phrase out of my head.

So here it is. If I have to suffer, so do you. Remember I warned you. Play this video at your own risk!
