I am convinced that there must be a Larry David Gene and that I have it.

I often find that I agree with Larry David’s opinions, just not the way he goes about expressing them.

In my own life there are many times I feel like I could use Larry David.

For example, the other day when I was walking home, minding my own business, of course, some guy came flying out of a building as I was walking past, and seemingly oblivious to me or anything else, he just barreled his way onto the sidewalk directly in front of me. Now everyone knows that the rule is that when you exit a building, you yield the right of way to pedestrians already on the sidewalk. Everyone knows that rule. It’s a well known rule. Except, apparently, that jerk.

Or here in my own neighborhood, several of the neighbors all put their trash across the street in one place. Presumably the theory is that this makes it easier for the trash collectors to pick up the trash, rather than having to go door to door to door. The problem arises when, as recently happened, someone left a large flower pot that got knocked over and all the potting soil spilled onto the sidewalk, and it’s just been sitting there for weeks now. And nobody has cleaned it up. Again presumably each of the neighbors can claim that it was someone else who left it out in the first place so it’s not their responsibility to clean it up.

I could really use Larry David to find the guilty culprit and get them to clean it up.

Because while I think I have the Larry David Gene, I think it’s a recessive gene, and I only have one of them; therefore, I get annoyed at certain behaviors, but I don’t actually say anything about it. You need two of the genes in order to get annoyed enough to actually do something about it.

As further evidence of my kinship with Larry David, in a season 11 episode, we saw that hanging in Larry’s bedroom is a print of one of my favorite paintings.
