Screw Off Caps

With advancing age comes a slew of medical conditions.

Take me, for example.

As I enter late youth, I find myself beset by a touch of arthritis in my hands. Sometimes significantly more than a touch.

It manifests itself in particular when I try to manipulate the little caps that seem to be on the ends of nearly every tube these days.

Trying to screw off the cap to open it without dropping the wretched thing on the floor and then having to search for it is enough to drive me to distraction, and then, of course, after I’ve finished squeezing the bloody tube to get just enough, and no more, out of it to satisfy my current need, I have to replace the cap and screw it closed once again.

Now I know that there exist flip open caps, because I’ve used them from time to time, and yet they still seem to be a rarity.

Whether it’s because those flip open caps are still patented and therefore prohibitively expensive, or perhaps they are difficult to manufacture and therefore prohibitively expensive, or whether the makers of all these other tubes are just too freaking lazy to use them for some other reason, I don’t know.

But I wish the screw off cap would go the way of the dodo.

  1. Only time I prefer screw on caps is on a tube of toothpaste and that’s only because the flip up caps get sooooo messy!
