We Interrupt This Program…

It was two and a half years ago that my Sony 70 inch 3D TV started having problems.

If you recall, that was one of the worst possible times it could’ve happened for me (as if there were a good time for it to happen) because that’s when I was saving up to have the windows replaced, so I really didn’t need another big expense at the time.

Which means that instead of replacing the TV with a Sony, because I’ve always been happy with Sony large screen TVs, I decided to find the cheapest 70 inch TV on the market, figuring that it would be good enough for my needs as all I used it for anyway was as a conduit for my Apple TV, and as long as the picture was decent, it ought to be ok.

Silly me.

Whatever you do, don’t ever buy a Vizio TV. Ever! The brand is pure junk!

It’s been nothing but a headache ever since I got it.

Oh, sure, the picture is fine. Probably someone with better eyesight or some expert in the TV biz might find fault with it, but it looks ok to me. That’s not the problem.

The problems started when I decided I didn’t want to keep it connected to the internet all the time. Well, the TV didn’t like that and it started acting up. I didn’t realize what the problem was at first, I just noticed that it wasn’t letting me access my Apple TV. Eventually after some experimenting I realized the TV was only happy when it had a permanent connection to the internet. It had to keep reporting back to its home base to let the bad folks at Vizio know exactly what I was watching every minute of the day and night.

Well, I told myself, since I was only using it for the Apple TV, they couldn’t really see what I was watching, just that I was using it for the Apple TV. So while I was annoyed, I didn’t think they were learning too much about my viewing habits.

But of course, the TV keeps getting updates, and now in the last couple of days the latest update is an abomination.

Nearly every time I turn the blasted thing on, which I do via my Apple TV remote, instead of going directly to the Apple TV home screen, Vizio takes over and wants me to set up a Vizio account with them.

Well, screw them!

I did have other plans for spending in the near term, but if this keeps up, I might just have to junk the damn thing and go and buy a Sony, which is what I should have done in the first place.

In the meantime—

Don’t let your sister buy a Vizio!
