I have a lot of pet peeves, so I don’t know why I haven’t been writing about them.
Time to correct that. For example:

Notice how he’s extending his thumb and pinky to simulate holding a phone. How ridiculous is that!

She’s doing it as well.

Sigh.
I don’t know who invented that method of simulating a phone call but it’s become ubiquitous. The thing is that nobody has ever held a phone—any phone—like that.
Not the old model phones that we now call land lines and certainly none of the cell phones that have taken over.
So why do people do it?
Shelley Berman didn’t do it when he did his telephone routines.

Nor did Bob Newhart.

I wish they would stop it. Right now!
