The Purloined Light Bulb

When I woke up on Monday morning, the smart light in the den was blinking.

Hmm, I’m not sure but I think that might mean it’s at the end of its life.

But how could that be?

It’s supposed to last for 25,000 hours! It’s a bloody LED after all. And I’ve only had it for—

Let me see now.  I set up my smart devices shortly after I moved in here about five years ago, so say four years. And I have the den light on for about 16 hours every day because there are no windows in the den.

So 16 X 365 X 4 comes to—

Well, it’s not 25,000 but I guess it’s close enough. And it probably has been closer to four and a half years anyway.

Time sure does fly even when you’re not having fun, I guess.

The thing is, I just bought another smart bulb a few months ago that I didn’t use, so it should be around here somewhere. Now where did I put it?

I looked in the basement. I looked in the cupboard in the dining room. And I looked around the den. And there’s a little extension room to the den that’s become sort of a junk room, so I looked there.

Den extension.

It has to be around the house some place, but I just couldn’t find it.

I decided that perhaps I should just bite the bullet and order a new one, as I could always keep a spare around anyway, so I went to the dreaded Amazon and searched for the smart bulb that I had bought a few months ago.

And when I found it I was reminded that it came in a two pack.

Smart bulb package.

And on seeing the package, I decided to take one more look around. Like in that junky den extension room.

Like right under that smoke detector. Like practically right under my nose the whole time.

Den extension w pointer.

For some reason I thought the bulb was sold as a single and came in a white box, so that’s what I had been looking for.

I was looking over the two smart light bulbs that I overlooked before.
