Tuesday I went to see the oph-, the ophtha-, the eye doctor.
I don’t particularly like going to any doctor these days as it always throws off my schedule for the day, but the eye doctor is about the worst, even though he is a very pleasant man himself, because he puts those drops in my eyes to dilate the pupils, and my eyes remain dilated for the rest of the day.
Which means I have to wear very dark sunglasses to walk home or I’m blinded by the sun, and really my vision stays a bit off until at least late in the afternoon. And a slight headache.
But there was some good news this time around.
For one thing, the doctor seems to be using some new form of eye drops. Previously, after he plopped them in my eyes, I’d have to sit around for fifteen minutes or so until they took effect. No longer. Now they seem to work instantly. Which definitely cuts down on the time I have to spend there, and I hate waiting.
Also, according to the doctor, my macular degeneration doesn’t seem to have degenerated since the last time he saw me. As he phrased it, it hasn’t thickened any. Nor have my cataracts gotten any worse. So no need for surgery yet.
But I’m now on a six month cycle rather than a yearly one, so I’ll have to go through this again in September.
Sigh.
