Quote of the day:
History is the ultimate soap opera.
—Julian Fellowes
I’ve restarted watching The Gilded Age from the first episode again. Like all of Julian Fellowes’s shows, there is so much going on, it repays repeated viewings.

One of the unexpected benefits of the new gas range is its efficiency. I don’t mind turning on the oven even when I’m running the air conditioning, at least for short periods. Yesterday morning I baked a batch of oatmeal cookies. That doesn’t mean I’m going to turn it up to 500°F. to make a pizza, of course.
And I finally found a use for the new cake stand. Though I froze most of the cookies, naturally. Can’t eat ’em all in three days.

On the way to the Acme yesterday morning I saw a new mural in the making.

I actually kinda like it like that.
After eight days the strike by the city’s largest blue collar union has ended. That means sanitation workers, water department employees, school crossing guards, 911 dispatchers, medical examiners office staff, library maintenance, and others are returning to work.
I’m just glad it’s over.
