From time to time I’ve mentioned Tim Toward in these blog posts. He was the roommate of Ed Stutz at Penn State on the tenth floor of Pinchot Hall and later they got an apartment off campus and hosted Saturday night parties. Tim was also the driver for the weekend trip to NYC that we took in the spring of 1968. I’ve mentioned him a number of times, and I’ll mention him a few more times.

He was from Tower City, Pennsylvania, and I’ve been trying to track him down for some time, and alas, I’ve finally succeeded.

Alas, because I’ve found his obituary.

Timothy Robert Toward died on January 18, 2018 at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida after what was described as a catastrophic illness.

Tim was taking pre-med courses when I knew him, and according to the obit he graduated from Penn State and went on to study at the Philadelphia College of Medicine and became a family physician for over 40 years. So there doesn’t seem to be much doubt that he’s the Tim Toward that I knew. There’s even a photo that could definitely be the Tim I knew 50 years older.

I just wish I had located him before his illness.
