Quote of the day:
Be open minded, but not so open minded that your brains fall out.
—Groucho Marx
Several years ago when I was still on Facebook—at least I think it was Facebook—I received a note about an upcoming class reunion.
I ignored it.
It’s not that I had no interest in my old high school class, it’s just that like the real Isaac Asimov or the fictional Nero Wolfe I don’t like to travel, so I knew I wouldn’t be going to any reunions. Maybe if they held one in Philadelphia, I’d consider it.
But on receiving a second message perhaps a couple months later, I thought I should at least answer it.
Anyway that’s how I recall first making contact with Cindy Behney.
We exchanged a few messages, and she let me know that she used to be Cindy Weller, and that rang a bell of sorts. A little searching through the cobwebs of my mind and I realized, oh, yes. She was that girl.

No, not That Girl.
The girl who used to hang around with Mona Goodison. Who used to come to my mother’s beauty shop. Yes, that girl.

So we began to exchange email from time to time, and whenever I wrote a blog post about the good old days in Richland or Elco, I’d send her the link. In return she’d keep me filled in on Class of ’67 activities and any major events in the lives of former classmates. Alas, at my age those events tend to be on the sad side. I also asked her to let me know about other folks from Richland, and she’s been doing that as well, and often her news gets turned into a post on my blog.
Cindy was a year behind me in school, but some time after the various school districts in eastern Lebanon County built the central school and became Elco, she met Bruce Behney, a fellow who was in my class. Bruce and I only ever shared the same classrooms during our first year at Elco which was eighth grade.

In one of those strange coincidences, Cindy and Bruce had each been born when their parents were living in Mt. Aetna, but Cindy’s moved to Richland, and Bruce’s moved to Myerstown, so they never met until Elco was created.
Where they began dating.
Here they are at Cindy’s senior prom in 1968.

And here they are at their wedding on October 18, 1969.

And just last weekend they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Saturday October 18!

It’s about time we had a little good news from Elco.
