Going Greek

Quote of the day:

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
—Will Rogers

I’ve been eating about a half cup of plain, whole milk yogurt at breakfast for years.

As it’s the first thing I eat in the morning, after a couple cups of black coffee, it tastes pretty good, and I even notice a little bit of sweetness in it.

A couple weeks ago, however, when I went to buy another 32 oz. container, there were a bunch of Greek-style yogurt containers where my usual brand was normally kept.

Now I recalled having tried Greek yogurt many years ago and not caring much for it, but it seemed that I didn’t have much choice; so I bought one, hoping that my regular brand would be back the following week.

Greek Yogurt.

When I got around to trying it, however, I discovered that it didn’t taste too bad. In fact, I rather liked it. More than that, I noticed that it had twice as much protein in a serving as my usual yogurt had. Over the course of the next few days, I decided that not only did I like it as much as regular yogurt, but I began to eat some at lunch time as well. I mean, protein is protein.

Apparently the difference between regular yogurt and Greek-style yogurt is the Greek is strained to removed the whey, so there is way less liquid, less calcium, and more protein. Supposedly it’s a bit sourer, but I can’t say I notice that, or perhaps I’m just used to eating it after drinking coffee.

Whatever, it’s all Greek to me.

Larry Krasner wins third term as Philly DA.

As expected Larry Krasner breezed to an easy victory for his third term as Philadelphia District Attorney. Although he’s made a few mistakes, after all he’s human, he’s the best thing that’s happened to our legal system since I’ve lived in this city.

His opponent, former Municipal Court Judge Patrick Dugan, offered a gracious confession speech. Oh, wait, of course, he didn’t. He’s a former judge, which means he’s an arrogant son of a bitch, and after losing in the primary he switched to the Republican Party to run in the general election after swearing up and down that he’d never do such a thing, which means he’s a hypocrite. So like any modern Republican these days he offered a speech dripping with venom and lies.

I’m simply glad that the election’s over, and I’m mostly very happy with the results, not just here in Philly but around the country.
