Thanksgiving

Quote of the day:

When angry, count four. When very angry, swear.
—Mark Twain

Today is Thanksgiving  Day in the United States, and often people talk about the things they’re thankful for.

Well, yesterday I saw a dog with three legs.

It didn’t seem that the missing appendage slowed him down at all, as he was sniffing and trotting along the sidewalk at a pretty good pace, and keeping his human companion huffing to keep up with him. I asked his companion about the loss of the leg, but she didn’t know the details as he is a rescue dog.

I’m thankful there are folks who are willing and eager to give rescue dogs a good home. This one certainly seems to be thriving.

Also yesterday came the news that the Pennsylvania legislature passed, and Governor Josh Shapiro signed, the Crown Act, which prohibits discrimination based on a person’s hair type, texture, or style. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh already had ordinances banning such discrimination, but now all the residents of the commonwealth will be able to enjoy that protection.

I’m thankful for that as well. It’s bizarre that we need a law like this, but I’m not going to dwell on that today, I’m simply going to be thankful.
