Tariffs are in the news again. I mean, when are they not?
On Wednesday EV.com had an item on tariffs and quoted a verse of an 1890 song by banjo player Ike Brown:
The Democrat says prices now will be higher,
All on account of the Tariff.
The Republican says, “Democrat, you’re a liar,”
All on account of the Tariff.
But one thing has gone up, and you can’t rub it out,
The Republicans this year have gone up the spout,
And the cause of it all I’ve no reason to doubt,
Is all on account of the Tariff.
And that sent me looking to see if there was a YouTube video of the song. There is. I’ve cued it up to start at that verse:
(If you like the singer you can find more of her videos at @patriciahammondsongs.)
It’s a catchy tune and perhaps you want to play it yourself for your friends and co-workers, so you can find the lyrics here and a pdf of the sheet music here.
Or just look below. I run a full service blog.
