
I believe I’ve mentioned The Brokenwood Mysteries previously, but as the show has entered its 12th season, I thought I’d give it another shout out.
It’s a police procedural set in New Zealand, and while it’s subject is murder mysteries, it always has an ample dose of light comedy.
What I especially enjoy about it is the small community seems lived in, as there are recurring characters who have been picked up along the way. Often a suspect in one episode keeps returning after being cleared, and in at least one case the culprit in one episode returned to town after having served a rather brief sentence.
In the midst of all the chaos, sometimes the show even makes room for a short philosophical discussion.
Case in point: In the first episode of the latest season Dr. Roger Plummer and the Reverend Lucas Greene have this little back and forth:
