It was about two weeks ago that I stopped into the Nuts to You shop on Walnut Street for my weekly shopping for, well, nuts and related goodies.

I had paid for my items for the day and was loading them into my backpack when the manager, who had been speaking to a young woman the entire time, turned to me and said, “Would you mind talking to this reporter from the Inquirer? She’s doing an article on our store and she wants to speak to some of our customers, and I see you in here all the time. You come here nearly every week.” 

I said I didn’t mind.

The first thing the reporter asked me was why I shopped here.

“For the nuts!” I replied, and I gestured to the wall filled with an assortment of nuts of all kinds as I added, “For those nuts, of course, not for these nuts,” as I pointed to the manager and her associate.

That seemed to get things off to a good start.

It was not so much an interview, I thought, as an informal little chat, though she was making notes the whole time.

I explained how I used the items that I bought to make my own breakfast cereal, that I had been coming to one or another of the various locations since the late 1980s, and I mentioned some of the folks I recalled from the 20th and 13th Street locations.

After a few minutes the reporter asked me for my name and my age.

After I mock hesitated on the latter question, she very kindly informed me that I do not look my age, but of course, regular readers of this blog know that from all the pics that I post. Don’t you?

Anyway, nearly two weeks later, the article has finally appeared in the Business Section. I thought it would be in the Food Section. Shows you how much I know about these things.

The reference to me is very short, of course, and she spelled my name correctly. The only thing I take issue with is that I don’t use the cashews that I purchase in my cereal concoction.
