At 9:10 AM I received the call. Was I ready for the delivery? I most certainly was. They were going to make me the first stop so I should expect them in about a half hour.
The two delivery men went right at it. As I pretty much expected, the basement door needed to be removed. Then one of the men went about disassembling the old washer/dryer in the basement, while the other fellow took apart the new ones out front.
When they had accomplished those tasks, they very efficiently went about switching the units, bringing in the pieces of the new ones while taking out the old.
In no time they told me to come down and they’d show me how the new units worked.
There was only one hitch. There’s always a hitch, it seems. And I didn’t notice until after they left. I had meant to ask them to double check that they had attached the hot and cold water correctly. I don’t know what it is about Philadelphia, but in most of the apartments and houses that I’ve lived in, in one or more places (usually the bathroom shower) the hot and cold water are reversed. Anyway I forgot to ask them and as it turned out, they had connected them wrong.
Well, even I can fix that. Which I did. But not before I had done a load of permanent press clothing and discovered the hard way that the rinse cycle was hot water! Oh, well.
As you can see in the photo below, the way the pipes are connected, it’s easy to mistake the hot for the cold pipe. Just wish I had remembered to ask them to double check. Or that I had done so before doing a load of permanent press clothes.
