A Love Letter to Sondheim

Terry Gross interviews actor Jonathan Groff and director Maria Friedman about the current revival of George Furth and Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along.

It’s well worth a listen.

Jonathan mentions finding new things in the words and music even after playing over 300 performances, and Maria talks about Sondheim becoming godfather to one of her children.

But a minor correction: Terry uses the term syncopation to describe some of the music that is not technically syncopated.
