You Think You Had a Bad Day?

Scriptnotes

In the April 15 episode of Scriptnotes Craig Mazin describes a truly bad day that he had when he was a beginning writer. I venture to say that very few bad days can compare to his.

After that, Craig and John August discuss oners—those single take shots that directors love, well, some directors, and actors hate, because everything needs to align perfectly in that one single shot—or they have to do it all over again, and again and again and again. They discuss the pros and cons of unbroken takes and mention the recent series Adolescence, each episode of which was done in a single take, but multiple takes over many days.

It turns out that Craig is not a fan of oners. Who knew?

You’ll find the episode at Our Take on Long Takes.

If you don’t want to listen to the whole thing, Craig’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day comes at around 16:20.
