This Way and That Way

After yesterday’s confession, I was asked if I remembered which albums I bought as Rufe Robinson.

Well, of course, I do not.

But it did get me to thinking about some of the albums that I had back in the late 60s, one of which was by Skitch Henderson and the Tonight Show Orchestra playing music from the Broadway musical Mame.

I’m not sure if Skitch arranged all the songs himself or if he worked them up with the talented members of the orchestra. Probably the latter, as there seems to be a lot of free interpretation of the melodies. I wouldn’t call the arrangements jazz, so much, as they don’t depart very far from Jerry Herman’s harmonies.

As I recall the album began on side one with “Mame – This Way” and concluded on side two with “Mame – That Way”.

I preferred it This Way. But you can decide for yourself.
