There it was in imdb. A piece of trivia attached to a TV episode. The episode involved an alcoholic who had fallen off the wagon and had to take periodic random breath tests, and the anonymous contributor very confidently wrote that this was a goof, that once one sobers up, alcohol is no longer in one’s blood so it doesn’t show up in a breathalyzer test. As if there is a solid line of demarcation between the time one is drunk and the time one becomes sober.
That didn’t sound right to me. So I checked and found a web site that says alcohol will show up in your breath for up to 24 hours. I’ll take the word of the Cleveland Clinic over some anonymous imdb contributor any day.
So I sent in a correction.
Oh, and alcohol can be found it other parts of your system for much longer.
