As it looks like the feds are closing in on New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams for running one of the most corrupt administrations since Boss Tweed, or whatever it is they’re closing in on him for (they’ve already gotten his police commissioner to resign), perhaps it’s time for me to ask: what the fork is the matter with New York City?
I don’t think its residents are stupid.
Let me back up there a bit. I don’t think its residents are any stupider than those of the rest of the country.
And yet they keep electing one bozo for mayor after another.

Of those previous three, Rudy’s deficiencies are well known. De Blasio was really more interested in using the mayoralty as a stepping stone to the presidency, and so was Bloomberg, although in fairness, he was probably the best of this unholy foursome. Did nobody ever tell them or did they never check their history books to find out that no one had ever used the office of Mayor of New York City as a stepping stone to the presidency? Actually Rudy probably thought it would give him a leg up as well. What a bunch of bozos.
Meanwhile, NYC is home to arguably one of the worst major newspapers in the country. Not to mention Wall Street, the armpit of America. Or is that the septic tank of America?
But back to Adams for a moment.
He ran on a “tough on crime” platform which should have given New Yorkers a clue, if they didn’t already have plenty of clues from Adams’s flip flopping from Democratic Party to Republican and back. “Tough on crime”, of course, is a staple of Republicans and it’s really a dog whistle meaning “I’m a racist but I can’t say it out loud” but Republican voters understand it well enough. That, incidentally is why it’s not really a flip flop to see so many Republicans coming out against the FBI and other law enforcement agencies as they really aren’t in favor of enforcing any laws that might go against fellow Republicans.
But I digress.
Throughout his tenure Adams has repeatedly shamelessly lied about the so-called high crime rate in NYC, just like any Republican would.
If the FBI does end up bringing down Eric Adams, I wonder if New York voters will have finally learned their lesson? Maybe they’ll vote for a sensible candidate for a change.
Hah! I jest.
Of course, I can’t write a post complaining about New York City mayors without pointing out that Philadelphia has just elected one of its worst mayors in years. The only excuse I can offer is there were something like a dozen candidates running and it was difficult to sort through them all. At least the voters didn’t pick the worst of the bunch.
