In Pat Hitchcock’s memoir of her parents she quotes Whitfield Cook who wrote the screenplay for Stage Fright:

One day, I was up at the ranch and Alma and Hitch had read about a fancy recipe, something presented inside a coconut shell. So we took a ride into San Francisco to buy coconuts; we got back to the ranch and suddenly we realized that none of us could open them up. Hitch was standing at the kitchen sink in front of the window when he finally unexpectedly cracked one open; needless to say, all the milk went all over him. Alma and I had to help him get his suit off, and there he was, standing there in his underclothes. The house was at least two miles from the main road—it was very private—but at that very moment two ladies drove up. They were obviously lost—and quite shocked to get a glimpse of Hitch standing at the window in his underclothes! Hitch went to hide while Alma went out to tell the women they were trespassing. Alma did get to cook the coconut dish—and it was quite delicious!

In 1979 Hitch was given the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. Alma was at his side as he gave his brief acceptance speech in which he thanked four people.
